3. research themes

During DiverCity workshop a list of 'themes/issues' (listed in the box at your right) emerged as significant for the network. We have to work a bit to join those that can be merged or coupled under a unique humbrella and define which are cross-cutting (i.e. to be taken into consideration in whatever research activity we carry on). The objective should be ending up with 2 or 3 main themes on which the network will focus on, and on which we'll start an in-depht debate. The intercultural city should be the mainstreaming issue of the research/debates/collaboration we set up within the network.

Defining the main research themes

macro-theme

In my opinion these are some macro-theme:

1. methods/ethics (here I can put the evidence for policy making)
2. the right to the city (could put together some issues concerning urban inclusion/exclusion, visibility and invisibility)
3. urban policies and practices/migration polcies

I agree!
Just one comment: policy making is also implied in the urban/migration policies. As for the 'evidence' I do not exactly remember what it stands for...

Research framework

Dear all,
In the below presented macro-themes we should probably specify: 1) what do we understand under methods: are those policy implementation methods, or academic methods of policy analysis? In the surrent interpretation it looks like it is the former... In this case p. 3 can be easily covered by p.1, and intercultutality (as an approach and method) should be included here.
2) I suggest that we should have a 'city environments' theme that would cover economic, social, demographic, political, etc. characteristics of a city in general. city space planning could also go under this theme, although, it might be the one of our priority today.

Research Group on Intercultural cities

Dear colleagues,
I am here to inform you that - in continuation to the theme that I presented at the DiverCity conference in Venice - I will be launching a research project on the benefits and disadvantages of the Intercultural Cities approach for different aspects of urban environment:
city administration and governance, urban public space planning, housing, security education, public service provision, business and entrepreneurship, quality of social capital, innovation, civic engagement, social cohesion, and to the variety of choices in cultural and social life of all citizens.
I would like to invite those of you that are interested in working on this project together to inform me accordingly.
My very best to all!

This is a perfect 'content' for the 'joint project' section of the future web-site... I'm copying/paste Kseniya 'announcement' there... anybody willing to reply to her on this project, please post there

Edit Home Page

Please edit this statement on the Homepage: The specific objective of our ...? is to establish....

Re: Edit Home Page

thank's Samson. Of course we have to put lot of updated contents in the final home page! the actual one is mainly taken from DiverCity Workshop aims/contens. But we will have to re-write it according to the 'network' aims/activities.

FIRST STEP I believe is agreement on the statute, from which we can extract objectves/descriptions to be placed in the final homepage

elena's macro themes

maybe our themes are still a bit too specific and, like Elena suggested, we should draw some broader lines and group some themes;
I like Elena's suggestions, but maybe urban policies and practices could be split ? as eg. something like 'intercultural practices in the city', understood as the presence or absence of intercultural contacts between people, is not necessarily that closely linked to urban policies? it's just an idea :)
